To mark the twin anniversaries of the centenary of the publication of Ulysses and the 140th birthday of James Joyce, the Hungarian James Joyce Society and the Embassy of Ireland in Hungary will jointly host an event featuring Ulysses inspired film and music. The event will also launch a programme of event planned for 2022 to mark Ulysses100 in Hungary.

The event will screen the TV Film, How Virág Úr became Mr Bloom, or James Joyce's Dublin, which traces the unique connection between Joyce's Ulysses and Hungary. The character of Leopold Bloom was of Hungarian descent, and his father hailed from the Hungarian city of Szombathely.

The event will be opened by Ireland's Ambassador to Hungary, H.E. Ronan Gargan, and the President of the Hungarian James Joyce Society, Professor Ferenc Takács.

The event will take place at Nyitott Muhely in Budapest at 19.00 on Wednesday, 2 February, 2022.

It is open to all and is free of charge. Attendance is by registration only by emailing [email protected] by 1 February.
