The Abbey Theatre and Dublin City Council presents

ULYSSES - 10-16 June

by James Joyce read by Barry McGovern

‘The supreme question about a work of art is out of how deep a life does it spring‘ James Joyce, Ulysses

2022 marks 100 years since the publication of one of the greatest modern novels, Ulysses by James Joyce.

Acclaimed actor Barry McGovern has been reading this famous text for over 50 years. He has read the entire book, episode by episode, over many years in the Tower in Sandycove.

Now, in this centenary year, he takes to the Peacock stage to read the complete book over seven consecutive days. The final day of the reading takes place on Bloomsday, Thursday 16 June.

“I want to read the entire book in public to celebrate the centenary of the publication of Ulysses and to show people who are afraid of the book how life affirming and how funny it is.“ Barry McGovern

Set entirely on one day, 16 June 1904, Ulysses follows Leopold Bloom and Stephen Dedalus as they go about their daily business in Dublin.

Delve into a single chapter or immerse yourself completely in one of literature’s greatest masterpiece.
