First Edition Ulysses: Digitised

The National Library of Ireland recently digitised a first edition copy of Ulysses (Alan Clodd copy, number 120), which can be viewed in full online.
This was digitised in October 2021 in anticipation of this year’s 100th anniversary of publication and the 140th anniversary of Joyce’s birth. The catalogue record details various types of paper that were used in the first edition. Numbers 101- to 250 were printed on the well known Vergé d’Arches paper (commonly referred to as Arches paper). These were larger than the others measuring 26.2 x 20.1 cm (versus 23.7 x 19.5 cm) and became known as the ‘Giant Joyce’. The National Library of Ireland’s Digital Studio team were delighted to work with this book, and also to contribute to sharing it with Joyce enthusiasts everywhere.
