To celebrate Bloomsday on 16 June, the Consulate General of Ireland will screen '100 Years of Ulysses' at the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre. '100 Years of Ulysses' takes a fresh look at this iconic Irish book and its controversial author.

Ulysses has been banned and burned, and has enchanted and exercised readers for a century. Join us and discover what it's actually all about! We look forward to welcoming guests to the DCA.

Following the screening please join us for light refreshments to celebrate this important literary centenary.

One hundred years ago, on 2 February 1922, James Joyce’s 'Ulysses' was first published by

Sylvia Beach in a small bookshop in Paris, Shakespeare and Company. The book, which had

consumed seven years of Joyce’s life, years in which his family’s circumstances were very

difficult, would have a profound impact on the literature and culture of the century to

follow. No twentieth century novel has rivalled Ulysses in its reach.

Produced to mark the 100th anniversary of the book’s publication, '100 Years of Ulysses',

the one hour documentary devised by historian Frank Callanan and directed by Ruán

Magan, unlocks one of most impregnatable and explosive books of modern times.

Featuring interviews with writers and scholars including Eimear McBride, Paul Muldoon,

John McCourt and Margaret O Callaghan, illuminative archive film and photographs, newly

commissioned art works by Jess Tobin, Brian Lalor and Holly Pereira and a beautiful original

score by Natasa Paulberg '100 Years of Ulysses' brings viewers on an enlightening journey

into the heart of one of the most inspiring and influential novels and reveals how it remains

as relevant today as it ever was.
