In collaboration with Elephant Book Shop, Embassy of Ireland to China is hosting 100 Years of Ulysses literature event on Bloomsday, the 16th of June, in Kunming, Yunnan Province in China. There will also be an Irish Literature Month programme over the month of June.
Long description: In collaboration with Elephant Book Shop, Embassy of Ireland to China is hosting 100 Years of Ulysses literature event on Bloomsday, the 16th of June, in Kunming, Yunnan Province in China. There will also be an Irish Literature Month programme over the month of June, to celebrate the centenary of James Joyce’s Ulysses.

On Bloomsday, the documentary film “100 Years of Ulysses” will be screened at Elephant Bookshop. It is a one hour documentary devised by historian, Frank Callanan and directed by Ruán Magan, to take the audience through the journey of Ulysses and celebrate James Joyce’s continuous influence on literature. This screening also marks the start of the tour programme for the film, in cities across China.

Alongside the screening, the event will be joined by guest speakers in Yunnan to share their stories with Irish literature, including

• CAI Yi, Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences

• LI Qian, Yunnan Art Critics Association • Professor WANG Xin, Faculty of Arts and Humanity, Yunnan University

• Professor CAI Zhengfei, Faculty of Fine Arts, Yunnan University

• BAO Zhuo, Dian Chi Literature Magazine

• TAO Yuanyuan, Yunnan Culture Newspaper

Over the course of the month, the Irish Literature Month programme includes a series of panel discussions joined by 20 speakers including writers, artists, editors, playwrights and critics to reflect on Irish literature’s impact on the contemporary creative works in China.
